FromSoftware’s relationship with Nintendo is getting a rare spotlight in 2026, with two very different projects still aiming for Nintendo Switch 2: Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition and the new online multiplayer action game The Duskbloods. The updates matter because both titles have been relatively quiet since their initial announcements, leaving fans to wonder whether they’d slip out of the year entirely.
Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is still in development after the delay
The big headline for many players is that Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition remains in the works for Switch 2 following its move out of 2025 and into a 2026 release window. Kadokawa’s financial Q&A language has been cautious—stressing that there’s no specific date to share—so it’s best to think in terms of “2026, but not necessarily soon.”
Nintendo’s own listing for the game frames it as a comprehensive package: the base Elden Ring plus Shadow of the Erdtree, alongside additional content such as new weapons, armour, and Torrent skins. That bundle approach makes sense on a new platform launch cycle, where many players may be jumping into the Lands Between for the first time.
The Duskbloods is still Switch 2 exclusive—and it’s not “just another Soulslike”
If Elden Ring is the known quantity, The Duskbloods is the wild card—and importantly, it’s still positioned as a Switch 2 exclusive. In an official press release, FromSoftware describes The Duskbloods as a PvPvE title “with online multiplayer at its core,” supporting up to eight players.
Rather than building around a single custom hero, the game has players take on the role of the “Bloodsworn,” characters empowered by special blood, fighting for “First Blood” as “the twilight of humanity approaches.” The same announcement also makes the publishing arrangement explicit: The Duskbloods is “published by Nintendo / FromSoftware” and scheduled for a worldwide 2026 release on Nintendo Switch 2.
What to expect next
Right now, both projects are in a “confirmed, but date TBD” holding pattern, with Kadokawa again noting it has not announced specific release dates. Practically, that likely means the next meaningful update will come via a major Nintendo Direct (or a focused Switch 2 showcase) rather than scattered partner reels.
